in Craft Tech

I am so excited to be able share with you a little from the show. As you know this last weekend we gave away a Cricut Expression to..

Christine America Real from Maryland

Congrats! If you have not already claimed your prize.. head over to the My Craft Channel blog to do so.

To kick this week off, I just wanted to start by sharing what Craft Tech is all about!

Craft Tech started as an idea… Kristine McKay came to me asking my if I wanted to host a show on the new network. I told her I would love to… but wanted to make sure I was presenting something that was different, and totally me. A few weeks of noodling, she presented the idea of Craft Tech to me and I was blown away! PERFECT. So what is Craft Tech?

It is truly the blending of my two great obsessions… crafting and technology. The two worlds may seem like complete opposites, but they are actually wonderful companions. We live in a hustle and bustle world. So much of our lives have gone digital. We Facebook, we blog, we have smart phones, camera phones, computers, and printers…and then we go into our craft rooms. There we enjoy a slower pace of life. A window into another time almost. But what happens when these two worlds collide? You get Craft Tech.

Craft Tech is not a digital crafting show. It is not about digital scrapbooking or creating digital art. It is about taking technology. Technology that we have in our daily lives… and using it in our traditional crafting. The projects are tactile, glue bound, and yes… sometimes glittered and “blinged”. And technology is just another tool in our toolbox. Craft Tech will also cover some fun techniques for incorporating our digital lives into our traditional crafts. Think about how much time you spend blogging or posting Facebook statuses. In many ways, those are little windows to who you are. Well, on Craft Tech…I will share ways to preserve those glimpses into our lives.

I hope you will join me all this week for a sneak peek at what we have in store this season. Tomorrow I will share some of my favorite photo apps and a fun giveaway from Echo Park.

And be sure to leave a comment below for an additional entry to win an iPad 2. I would love any questions you have or topic suggestions you would like to see on the show!

Congratulations on the new show! I enjoy listening to you on PRT, so I’m sure I’ll love your new show! Good luck! When does this all begin? Sounds like there are going to be tons of great shows!

  • Lisa M. Zepponi

Your show intrigues me. I am technologically challenged. For ex: I have several cute pics on my phone and have no idea how to down load to computer; so, one by one I have emailed them to my computer. Time consuming and tedious. Will you give us tips on how to take pics on the “fly w/ phone” and more importantly how to get them out of the phone to scrap? Will you also show us how to “get” all those cute fonts onto our page? Am I missing the point? Am I too much an amateur to understand your show? I WANT to understand…sorry such a long post. P.S. thanks for the chance to win an IPOD2; played with my moms and it seems a LOT easier to maneuver!

Can’t wait for your show! I’m still on the never-ending quest for the Instagram type app for my Android! Any suggestions?

  • Sammie

I’m really looking forward to your show! Can’t wait to see it! I incorporate a lot of digital designs and photo editing in my paper layouts, as well as digital die-cutting, so I’m hoping I’ll learn tips and more creative uses for these things!

  • Renee

I’d love to hear about photo printer preferences, tricks for keeping track of all the photos from all the different gadgets, favorite places to order prints…and any techie tricks you have…. Thanks and congrats again!

  • http://jenwaters.blogspot.com jen

    So cool … congrats!

  • http://scrapbookingcreationsbyvicki.blogspot.com/ Vicki Wilson

Can’t wait for your show. Sounds great.

  • nitasha

This sounds like such a new and fresh idea! I can’t wait to start watching the shows! I know lots of folks are using awesome apps on their i-phones and androids to take really neat photos, but I’m also wondering if DSLRs and point and shoot cameras would be considered part of the “tech” word too (because I’m always craving more info on what’s new with photography technology)? Thanks so much!

  • http://www.scraphappystudio.blogspot.com Carol B

Looking forward to learning more about the new technologies and how to use them with my crafting!

I’m so glad for the technology that gave us scanners and PSE so I can scan and repair all the heritage photos I’ve gotten from my parents and in-laws. I’d love to see some tips on saving/repairing older photos.

  • Carol West

    Ana,
What great prizes you are giving away. I’m looking forward to seeing you on My Craft Channel!

  • Christy N

Congrats…and I hope to win an iPad!

  • Laura

I’d love to get more of a handle on which of the many phone/camera apps are best for creating usable pictures for scrapping. For example, do most of them create only low-res pics or do some of them give you a better output? (I have an iPod Touch, which doesn’t have the higher end camera of the newer iPhone.) I know that’s pretty specific. . . . . . lol

  • Sharon From South Shore

Crongrats on winning the Cricut Expression. I was using mine like crazy then took a little break. I think it is time to dust it off and have some fun with it again.

  • Christa Allgood

I can’t wait to see your show!! I love to learn about new iPhone apps!!

  • http://www.hotwheelsandglueguns.blogspot.com Michelle (from KY)

Congrats! What a great idea for a show! I would love to see a project that involved printing photos onto fabric. Maybe different fabrics and mediums to use, projects like pillows, places to get images?

Thanks fo the chance to win!

  • Melissa Kaye

Sounds awesome! I can’t wait to see what you do with technology. I’m sure I will have questions, etc, but right now I’m super curious how you incorporate technology into tactile crafts. SO excited to see what you come up with for your show!

  • Gela

You can start by showing how technology and crafting are good companions. When I think of technology I DO think about digital scapbooking or a new gizmo to use for scrapping. I have tried to do digital scrapping but I crave all things glue, glitter, and inks :) . Miss hearing your review of CHA on papperclipping. Hopefully you will be on soon so we can hear it and know more about your new adventure. You go girl!!

  • Elisa M-L (Williamsburg, Virginia)

So glad to see you posting again. Every couple of weeks I’d check the craftification site to see any new updates. So excited about your new endeavor. I’d be interested in learning more about the instagram photos — is it only available via the iphone? Could this technique be applied to photoshop? Just an idea. Thanks for the chance at the give-away.

  • http://www.scrappingmommy.com Amy C

I can’t wait to see how you incorporate technology into traditional scrapbooking. I am basically a traditional scrapbooker and probably could use a touch of technology in my every day crafting.

Congrats to Christine!! Have fun with your new machine!!

  • Karen C.

I was wondering, is there a fee to this channel?Like, do we have to pay to watch? Thanks!

Your new show sounds wonderful, can’t wait to see it. You are always entertaining and inspiring on paperclipping.

  • Cynthia B.

Out of all the shows that My Craft Channel has announced, I have to say yours most intrigues me. I’m a mostly traditional paper scrapper- not a techie-phobe, just a slow adopter. But, I also have a limited amount of crafty time..so if I can use technology to help things along, you bet I’ll be tuning in to see what ideas you have! :)

  • Duckienz

I am not the most tech savy of people but I m looking forward to your show. yay. No questions sorry except can you cover how to keep the tech away from the glue…?

  • Julie Parrish

Hi, I’m looking forward to your show, and hope you can cover some more technical cutting tools. Okay, maybe not a laser knife, but something to help us get more accurate cuts or help with thicker art papers.

    Thanks!

  • http://www.scrappynewyear.blogspot.com Tracey

Not sure if this is a whole show topic, but a blending of craft and tech that completely BLEW MY MIND recently is this “Lullaby Pillowcase” from kat at Just Crafty Enough: (http://www.justcraftyenough.com/2011/07/lullaby-pillowcase-finished)

She hand embroidered a QR code onto a pillowcase so that when it’s scanned, it takes you to a page that plays the Brahms Lullaby. So amazing!

I’m so excited for your show and all of the other shows on MCC. Can’t wait!

  • Tamara W

I think you could also do a feature about the use of instagram and the throwback to the square photos that look like they are from the 70s. I am using this software on my iphone and it is so pretty with my photos that I snap. What I want to do is print some of these photos and use them on my layouts.

Ironic that we used UNDO and floss to remove these photos out of the old gummed pages books when we all started and now our photography is trending full circle.

  • http://www.savannahland2.blogspot.com Sav O’G

OH MY GOSH! I am super excited about your show–I have NOOOOOOOOO clue how to use technolog–it takes me MONTHS to learn the easiest things! I love technology because it is up-to-date and it keeps me in contact with friends/family…but I want to use it more with my business and crafting! SO Excited to see what you share:) Thanks for the chance to win:) sbmmhoover at yahoo dot com

  • Kitten With A Whiplash

I’ hope your new show includes low-and-older tech friendly info. More and more my just over 1GH processor/way less than 1/2 GB memory computer is capable of less and less as it gets older. Why does that sound so familiar? Oh, I remember now.

  • Cori

As long as you laugh and have as much fun here as you do on RPaperclipping Roundtable, you’ll do great!

  • Cheryl Smith

I can’t think of a more fun class than the one you are going to host. I love technology and I love crafts, but sometimes they don’t mesh. I’m looking forward to seeing how you combine the two. It sounds like a lot of fun.

  • Lonyae Thomas

Whoa your idea is so exciting I really don’t know what to expect yet! I guess a start can be showing people the ways facebook makes it easier to compile data and thoughts/statuses from the year (ex. fb can give you a list of your top statuses ) and then discuss not only how that reveals what preoccupies your mind (or at least what you’re most willing to share ;) ) and how that can be inspiration for a scrapbook layout. Just a thought!

  • LauraBean

Love tech, love crafts: perfect! :-)

  • Sonia Rowe

wow THANKS for the chance to win an IPAd 2!!! WOOHOO. Can’t wait to see your classes.
    Sonia R

  • Felicia

I love to hear you on the Paperclipping Roundtable! I’d like to learn more about how you use technology for your daughters’ birthday parties (invites, favors, thank you notes, decor etc.). I have two little ones myself and am always trying to DIY as much as I can – not just from an affordability standpoint but from a personalization standpoint too. Thanks for another opportunity to win an IPAD2. :)

  • Twyla Davis

It’s funny that some ppl who think they’re tech challenged aren’t at all. For instance Lisa Z (above) thinks she doing something inefficiently by email photos one at at time. Well, if she’s using an older phone that may well be the best way of doing it. Her phone may or may not have a cable for computer hook up and depending on the phone may be quite burdensome even if a hook-up is possible. Lisa, new smart phones (like the iphone and android) make moving things a breeze. If you have one of these there are better ways, but you’ve done well by finding a method that does the job. Pat yourself on the back.

  • http://inkcicles.blogspot.com Nancy Grant

    Sounds like fun! Can’t wait!

    :-)

  • Shelly

I’m excited to see what you have in store for us.

  • Chanine V
