Picture frames are an easy way to show off family photos. As long as we have lived in this house, I have had this wall of boring. An obscure wall that sits in the hall between the living room and family room. Visible by both rooms, strangely angled, and just boring. These matching frames were the perfect solution. Each shadowbox came with the white mat. I just added the name, birthday, and picture of each of my girls, my nieces, and my nephew. Each frame ended up costing about $6.50 when it was all done.

A closer look shows how simple this project is.
1. Print name and date info onto 8×10 ink jet printer paper. (not photo paper) I used photoshop to layout the name and dates, but it would be very simple to do in MS Word.
2. Print 3.5″x3.5″ images of each child.
3. Mount onto name paper using foam tape.
supplies used: Shadowbox frames (Hobby Lobby), Inkjet premium printer paper (Epson), printer (Epson), foam tape (3M)

I have been so inspired by the beautiful homes I have seen in my pinterest browsing lately that I have decided to try to do some sprucing up here at the cocounthouse. To brighten my family room, I decided to paint our picture frames. And now, I am totally addicted to SPRAY PAINT!

The result was fantastic! It really brightened the room and helped to pull together my pink wall with the rest of the room. During my spray painting adventures, I did learn a few things. So here are my tips for spray painting bliss.
1. Get the good stuff – I love the nozzle by KRYLON. It does not clog and the spray is even. I have purchased several cheaper brands and was disappointed each time. The difference in price is just a few bucks. Don’t go cheap.
2. To prime or not to prime – The frames I painted were all silver or pewter. So covering them was relatively easy. But for the lighter yellow, priming helped the color really shine. It also helped cut down on the number of coats needed to get an even color.
3. Layer Layer Layer – when spraying, use even passes about 9 – 12″ away from the piece. Build up the color by letting each coat dry slightly then going over again. Don’t try to cover in one thick pass… you’ll just end up with drips and streaks.
4. Dry Dry again – allow the paint to dry after you have applied a couple coats. I found the color was much more vibrant.

A few years ago, I was totally inspired by a project that Ali Edwards created. She used a printers tray to create a beautiful wall display. Well, its been almost two years since I found and purchased a couple vintage printers trays… and they are still empty.
supplies: Paper, stickers, and journaling cards (“A Walk in the Park” by Echo Park Paper)
But these little inexpensive house shaped trays are really fast to put together. This one I created in just 20 min. using just a single picture. I have also used smaller houses – like the one below - (about 5″x7″ in size) for baby shower gifts. Perfect for a new nursery.
And here is the first little shadowbox house that I made about 4 years ago~

Mondays – especially unseasonally cold ones like the one I am experiencing today… are not really condusive to creativity. Ususally I have way too much to do to take on anything that would take more than just a few moments.
So I decided to spruce up this picture frame that has been on my wall for some time now. I just added the three little rubons to the bottom corner, and it totally spruced it up, making it perfect to showcase this picture of “the Boy”.
I didn’t need to buy anything. The frame was already on the wall, and I had the rub ons in my stash! Go grab a frame, rub on some love – then back to the Monday grind stone!
PS there is still time to enter to win the Echo Park Paper prize package. Leave a comment on any “Creative Daily Post” and be entered to win. I will announce the winner this Thursday and a new giveaway on Friday!
Supplies used: Rub ons (Hambly Screen Prints)
