Layout a day and winner!

by coconutgoddess on September 29, 2009

For today’s layout… I created this two page layout for my sister to remember her baby shower.

layout_small

I created the pocket with patterned cardstock by Making Memories. For the accent square on the left, I purposely cut out the X for Xander of course.

The layout is clean but still manages to include lots of pictures.

General Growth Properties (GGP) Malls, TLC’s “What Not To Wear” and TwitterMoms have teamed up to create a fun blogging contest in celebration of the upcoming Shop Smart Look Fab mall event taking place at over 140 GGP malls nationwide from September 17-20. The blogging contest centers around the question “What are your 5 fashion must haves for fall?”

What fashion items can’t you live without? What color is the “new” black? Was big shoulder pads a good idea the first time around?

I can’t live without the following items in the Fall

1. Long sweater jackets… great with jeans, skirts, what ever!

2. toasty Uggs. Loving my knit ones especially this year.

3. scarves – I wear a lot of black, but scarves a great way to add a splash of color.

4. soft long sleeve layering tees – extends some of the summer wardrobe out a couple months.

5. real shoes and boots – I live in FLIP FLOPS in the summer. Fall is when I can start to feel a little more pretty! New shoes are like an instant makeover.

TwitterMoms are hosting a contest for bloggers. Fifty bloggers who enter the contest will get a $25 GGP mall gift card to use as they shop for that new look! Who can’t use an extra $50 to spend for their Fall wardrobe? So hurry and enter today!!

layout

This layout is one of my all time favorites. Like most of my layouts, it was easy to make!

It is hard to see in the photo, but the circle on the left is a shadow box of sorts. I simply cut out the window and created a shadow box behind it using a Hambly Overlay as the window pane! I adhered the chipboard behind the window and added the black background behind the window using foam tape.

This is a GREAT way to use up stray chipboard pieces that we all have.

I used opaque white ink around the edge of the sheer photo frame.

To really make this quick and easy, I printed the pictures in a row just as it is seen on the page!

Keep up the good work ladies~ give

how much is too much?

by coconutgoddess on September 24, 2009

How much is too much? I am a single mother of three AWESOME girls. They are simply amazing. It is nothing new for me to be really busy with work. Its just the nature of what I do. I love my calling at church. And I try (without much success) to keep things together at home.

This fall we have Sierra in cheerleading, church activities, volunteering, PTA, I’m room mom, and Savannah and Sedona have multiple dance classes and I am starting a new business. Am I insane? I am beginning to think so. When in our pursuit of happiness did life become so crazy? My room is a disaster zone, my studio is worse, and I have been trying to clean and organize for 6 months. UGH. Maybe its time to simplify…

I did however have an awesome time seeing some old friends over the past few days. Jessica and Candice are two of my favorite people ever. SERIOUSLY. I truly believe that our heavenly father graces our lives with the blessings of wonderful friends. Friends who are there through good and bad. Friends who love you.. and make you feel that love.

I need to stop being so dang busy. Spending time with my friends has reminded me of what it important to me. The question is, how to get from where I am now… to where I want it to be. What do I want it to be? I dont know. And now, I am off to take my gal to Ballroom.

a family a-FAIR

by coconutgoddess on September 23, 2009

I LOVE Fairs and Festivals. It is the best part of the summer. So needless to say I was as excited as the kiddlettes to go to the Utah state fair this past weekend. Being from California, I love this fair for it’s size. It is about half the size of the county fairs out there. Which is a good thing when schlepping around a baby and three kids. The CA state fair is simply GINORMOUS and really best seen over the course of a couple days.

Of course, the FOOD was the big highlight for all of us.

This year we had the tried and true favorites along with Pork Chop on a stick, Alligator, Crawfish, Frogs legs (Sierra LOVED), deep friend Oreos and Twinkie, Polish Sausage corn dog, meat pies, fresh made chips and the BEST Italian Ice ever. (That I am happy to find out is available in Bountiful year round!!!)

And then the ZIPPER incident. Lea convinced Savannah to ride the ZIPPER.  Well, she forgot how SCARY that ride really was. They got into the cage, and according to Savannah as soon as the ride started it was going really fast. Spinning the cage around on its axis as that turned around the giant track. Lea, also frightened had to hold with one hand, and push Savannah back with the other to keep her face from slamming against the front of the cage. Because the share the lap bar, it was loose for Savannah. Lea said that Savannah was telling herself that she would be a big brave girl even though she had some tears falling and was genuinely frightened. Those two looked pretty shook up when they got off the ride.
