getting ready

by coconutgoddess on November 26, 2008

it seems not matter how much prep i do, I can't seem to really get ahead of the holiday hoopla. but this time I am really going to try. today i will start cooking for tomorrow. i have to make the cornbread and croutons for the stufffing, make the marshmallows for the yams, and make the dough for the rolls to proof in the fridge tonight.

while i am at it, I will have to set the kids table tonight and make some TG goodies for the little ones.

hopefully that will still leave enough time to have some fun with the kids. perhaps enlisting them in the prep will help with that. not to mention taking a little time to think about the many wonderful things that we have to be thankful for.

well… off I go. I hope that you and yours have a wonderful thanksgiving!

Giving Thanks Mini

by coconutgoddess on November 25, 2008

Thanksgiving is all about the food in my family. But I wanted to spend at least a moment to think about the many blessings that we have to be thankful for. So I created this little mini-book to pass around  while waiting for dinner. Each family member can write their thanksgiving thoughts. (Without worrying about getting the Cabrera family razzing.)

The best part is that it took about 2 min. to make. Just adhere several mini cards together. (fronts stuck to the back) then add a little binding to finish. I printed the sentiment onto a piece of Kraft paper. This project was a great way to use up the brown and blue cards in my Holiday Card kit. (Since I am more of a Green and Pink Christmas girl)

After making it, I just started sticking more cards and envelopes together to make more minibooks. The Christmas one on the right is the future home to random photo moments that are sure to come in the upcoming season.

This little envelope accordion book has space for pictures and little cards tucked into it. I think for this one I will put a picture of each of my girls under their tab, then have each of them write a little Christmas wish into the card. It will be fun to see what they come up with, and in the future… it will be neat to compare their wishes from year to year. [I will post step by step instructions for this after Tday]

Materials used: Cards, envelopes, pebble sticker, tabs (KOTM- Becky Higgins Holiday Card Kit) Mini letter stickers (Making Memories – FA LA LA)

Thanksgiving Countdown

by coconutgoddess on November 21, 2008

Got some faux twigs, some leftover chipboard… glitter (of course)? Then you have a garland that takes about 20 min. to complete.

Thanks_twigs

I simply used spray adhesive and glittered the chipboard letters. I happened to have some clear overlay scraps. . . but you could use vellum, cardstock or patterned paper. (got tags?) It says "Give Thanks"

Tie onto a piece of yarn and weave through some twigs! (mine are faux I got for 1.50 at Michaels)

I think this will live on top of one of the bookcases or the entertainment center. hmmm…

Be sure to swing through for some table top fun including some festive kids table ideas.

Thankful Decorating Pt. 1

Leaves500

While perusing through the MANY autumn inspired magazines I have purchased over the past few weeks, I decided to add a few autumnal touches to our home. But with the Christmas season just around the corner, I wanted to make sure all the projects were EASY and VERY INEXPENSIVE. With Halloween over, I found that most places have their fall items marked to 70% off or more. I picked up a bunch of faux leaves (all attached as a bunch) for $2.00

Just string onto some monofilament and hang from the ceiling. {Glue dots are awesome for this!}  My terrible photography does not do this justice. They are super cute in person. They are a great accent to the wreaths and other more traditional items through out the room! For Thanksgiving… I am cutting out a bunch of leaves for each of our family members to write down some of their grateful tidbits. I am going to string them in a similar fashion and hang like a garland on Thanksgiving!

Tomorrow, my fall kissing globes.
