WOAH… down for the count sick was how I spent the past few days. So I am sorry the winners circle is late! But super doses of Vitamin C, Zinc, and some much needed rest and I am back in the holiday swing of things.

aka: Fun with Fumes. Ok, I know what you are thinking. There is a part of you that wants to say… “you are nuts. there is no way I am spray painting my Christmas tags and decor.” But hold off on your judgement. These tags were a bit of a happy accident. While cutting out snowflakes (to later be glittered) I thought it would be fun to use the negative space for something. And what I discovered is a fun, easy, and FAST way to create a whole bunch of tags and cards. I hope you will give it a try.

you will need

  • cardstock (I used KRAFT and WHITE)
  • spray paint – preferably for paper. (I use Krylon Paper Finishes in Silver)
  • stick on jewels (I usually am totally opposed to acrylic jewels, but for tags, they are perfect and inexpensive)
  • ribbon – (I am using 1.5″ double faced satin and 3/4″ sheer organza)

For each shape, start by cutting your cardstock to the desired shape. For “tag” shape, I simple handcut. Notice on the “S” tag how I left one side uncut. The ornament shape was cut using my Silhouette. Of course, you could just cut one by hand or using another die cut system. What ever you prefer.

In a well ventilated area, use easy release painters tape to adhere the negative stencil to the paper. Personally I like to use a very large stencil for just a partial shape. Of course, this is your own preference. If you do not have negative stencils that you have made – there are lots of commercial stencils available for very cheap at most craft stores.

Spray the project. Paper paints dry almost immediately, so you can peel the tape away right away and just wait a few moments for it to dry.

Adhere the jewels and tie with ribbon. (experiment with different knots and ties)

The best part, the stencil is reusable, and it is easy to line up several tags or shapes to spray at once.

Color Mojo

by coconutgoddess on May 6, 2011

in Paper Dreams

I don’t know if it has been the crazy weather or just my insane schedule, but my creative mojo has been pretty low lately. HOWEVER…the arrival of my new Doodlebug Create a Cards has helped give me that color mojo I have been looking for.

These cards are actually pretty cute on their own. I love that they are inexpensive enough to really make them great for giving. And because they are pre-cut – creating a special card only takes a few moments. {I made all three of these cards in under 20 min!}

CHA kicked my butt

by coconutgoddess on February 10, 2011

in CHA

What a trip… I love reading all the recaps, and here is mine. This is long… so grab a cup of cocoa and relax. (and skip down to the end if you want to win some fun prizes!)

Our trip started Friday. Mama (my mother) and I decided to drive to LA from our home in UT – by way of Vegas of course. A quick stop turned into an awesome dinner…

and some major shopping!

If you have not seen the giant H&M in Ceasars, go. Go Now! Needless to say we ended up getting into LA pretty late.

Day 1  started at an 8 am Making Memories VIP event to showcase the new Bravissimo line. Gave my stamp of approval and shared how much I love this line.. then off to the show floor. Followed by a fun Cricut party to celebrate 5 years of the Cricut and then off to dinner with the wonderful ladies of Big Picture Classes. (and if that isnt enough… from there we ended up going to a party where my “uncle” was playing for some live band Karaoke) And meeting up with my dear friend Paolo.

The rest of the week was pretty close to the same relentless schedule.

Day 2 highlight was the Paperclipping Roundtable for sure. I always love being on the show.. but there is something exta special fun and fabulous about getting to actually be sitting with these fantastic ladies. And well, it was cool for my mama to see what it is we do at “CHA”.

Day 3 more make and takes for mama on the show floor, a few more meetings and then off to Vegas. (or we thought)

On the way home, we got a call that my youngest little diva was really ill – throwing up every hour, and asking for me. So I decided that we would skip Sin City and power through and drive straight home. If all goes well… we would be home at about 4 am. IF all goes well. Unfortunately things didnt quite go as planned. In the mountain pass just beyond St. George we got hit by a pretty big snow storm. Hoping to still trudge through… we went on. We only got as far as Beaver before we had to pull into a creepy motel and call it night.

We FINALLY made it home the next day. Since I got home, we have been pass the virus… and now. I am officially butt kicked, totally inspired, and completely exhausted! But I would do it again, and in fact will… CHA Summer will be here before we know it! lol.

As for my favorite product picks? Download “Almost live from CHA” episode of the Paperclipping Roundtable. And be sure to check out the blog all weekend long and I will share more of my favorite finds and inspiration from the show! Wanna win some? Come back to the blog tomorrow (Friday) for an all new weekender giveaway!

I just love Noell and Izzy over at Paperclipping.com , so it was so much fun to see them out on the show floor during this past CHA. Well, before you know it, a friendly hug gave way to the little red light turning on and this little video. Shot TOTALLY impromptu.. but so much fun. And be sure to check out DOZENS of awesome videos from CHA over at Paperclipping.com

And check back here for my next taping of the Paperclipping Roundtable. It is sure to be another fun discussion of all things scrapbooking!
