wedding

DIY wedding invitationI love wedding stationary. With no wedding in my near future… I still fnd myself pouring over the pages of Martha Stewart Weddings and admiring all the beautiful custom stationary. So when my sister asked me to create her wedding set on a budget, I gladly took the challenge. And this was the result.

DIY Wedding Invitation Tips:

  • I used MR. French Kraft cover-stock for the base. To save $, I cut and scored the card bases rather than using pre-folded cards. Invest in heavy cover-stock for the base, it will give your card a richness and some heft.
  • For the inner pocket, I cut each pocket in a coordinating color (black) and used 1/4″ adhesive transfer tape to adhere in place.
  • I designed the text block from scratch using Photoshop. I used a mix of free and commercial fonts. Ornaments can be found online usually for sale for very little $.
  • I had the text block professionally printed at my local copy shop – go check yours out if you have not been in a while. They usually offer a variety of paper options. Be sure to know what is available before you get to stuck on a design.

The bride and groom liked the interactive bits of the invite.. these included a save the date magnet, tag with wedding blog info (also the place guests could go RSVP and get gift registry info), and a whimsical photo strip of the happy couple.

  • The photo strip was easy to create – the pictures were taken using Instabooth, then exported to Photoshop. I formatted the image and fit three strips on a single 4×6 sheet and printed them off.
  • You can purchase printable magnet paper at most craft stores. I just used a pen to “circle” the date with a little heart.
  • The tag was created by hand cutting the base. (using scraps from the card base) and adhering the text piece on top – this was also printed off at the copy shop.
  • Finish your tag with a bit of twine or ribbon.

I hope you find these tips useful, this would make a very special invite for just about any occasion.. not just weddings!

Candy Buffets are all the rage. In fact, they have become a bit of a Cabrera Celebration favorite. For my sister’s wedding, I created this fun centerpiece. Super easy, and great for any occasion.

To create one of your own just follow some of these simple tips.

  1. Use floral foam at the bottom of your container to hold the candies.
  2. A little hot glue at the bottom of each stick before you stick it through the foam will help secure the pops.
  3. Gumballs and jellybeans make a great filler to cover the foam. I glued the gumballs in place and just poured in the jellybeans into the center.

Here is how it looked on the table, fun and simple!

Personalize your wedding cake with these super cute hand painted peg people!

Lea requested this personalized cake topper… with figures of Logan and Lea. But also, with figures of their sons – Xander and Mason. They were very simple to paint and extremely inexpensive. You could mount them to a small wooden plaque or just stick them on top like they are here. And how cute would it be to create a peg to give to each member of the wedding party?

To create a set of your own, you will need:

  • wooden pegs (you can find them online, etsy, or at your local craft shop)
  • paint
  • paint brushes

Start by painting the bride, she really is the simplest one to do. I also recommend purchasing a few extras – for practice.

When you are done, let the little people dry and finish with a clear coat.

We were inspired by the little cake toppers we found onEtsy.

For the cake stand, Lea purchased the tree stump online. Of course, if you have access to some wood you could cut, sand, and varnish a piece yourself. Using a dremmel tool I carved out the heart. Channeling my girls camp days, I used a wood burner to add the “L + L”

The results were simple but very cute. Perfect for our DIY theme! Leave a comment for your chance to win 4 blank pegs to create a custom couple of your own.

These little wired flowers add a touch of whimsy to any floral arrangement… paper or otherwise! I created them in white to coordinate with our overall theme, but they can easily be created to match any color scheme.

For each flower, you will need…

  • 1 piece of 24 gauge floral wire (we chose white wrapped, but you could also use unwrapped, green, or brown)
  • 2 flower die cuts* (these were cut using the eclips)
  • hot glue gun
  • 2″ piece of bamboo skewer (this is a great way to use the trimmed pieces from the other flowers)

1. Fold the floral wire in half, about 1/2″ from the end of the bent tip - twist the other onto the end of the skewer.

2. Dip the tip into the hot glue and pick up a little blog.

3. Sandwich the glue blob between two flowers. Hold in place until set.

4. When adding into your arrangement, allow the flower to hang past the rest of the flowers… it will give the bouquet added style and movement.

GIVEAWAY! Leave a comment and one lucky winner will receive a paper flower kit. It includes everything you need to create a finished centerpiece. Not only cute for a wedding, but great for spring time decor. Modern in plain white, or perfect for spritzing with your favorite sprays. Winner announced later this week. See you tomorrow!
