I am quite proud of my simple $5 Valentine’s Day Dress. It started out as an after Christmas find at Walmart. (one of those compulsive buys… went to get TP and got sucked into the sale racks) And customizing it was fun and simple!
To take it from Christmas to Valentines was simple.

I just love making homemade gifts this time of year. I wish I could say that my family would be totally thrilled with all handmade presents, but… they are always happy to have some strewn in with the electronics, toys, and clothes. I started making these little headbands after seeing one almost exactly like it at Anthropologie. (a store I love but rarely buy from $$$) When making homemade presents, I try to create things that are not too Christmasy so they can be enojoyed for the year to come!

Try making a whole bunch of these quaint little flowers in a variety of colors. Then stick them to headbands, clips, pony os, and buttons.
For step by step printable instructions as seen in the May issue of Simply Handmade – click here. These flowers are both easy and fun to make.
Gifty Tips
- be sure to look for high quality materials like real swarovski crystals, glass beads, and finer fabrics.
- clean backsides – add a little bit of wool felt to cover any unsightly glue or seams.
- package – think about packaging your handmade goody the way the high end boutiques do. a little tissue and ribbon really go a long way.

Ok. I have to admit it. I have seen these fantastically gaudy watch bracelets for quite sometime now. And as much I LOVE the beads I have refused to take the plunge and wear one. I always seem to justify that I would rather just have a bracelet – who the heck still wears a watch?
That is until my dear friend Christy from Scarlet Lime hooked me up with some beaded love. NOW I am not only totally addicted to wearing these fabu beads… but I totally addicted to making them. Christy is a rockstar, so the kits she puts together are so easy that my tween is able to put together the watch bands in no time. But grab a few kits and try mixing and matching some of the beads. Right now I am working on a Halloween band. Of course there are matching necklaces too.

Here is another watch band that I just made into a bracelet and a fun dangly pendant!
Because I love these guys so much… I just have to share. Leave a comment and one winner will get a complete watch kit. The only requirement is- if you are the winner… you have to send me a picture when you are done putting it together!
Be sure to visit my guest gallery at Scarlet Lime too.

I want to scream from the top of my lungs and throw this evil machine out my window…

About a year ago I bought this baby as a gift to myself. Brand new, I got a great deal. It came pre-threaded… and worked great. WELL… I was playing around with the tension and broke a thread. So I had to go and re-thread the whole thing. And you know what…I can’t figure it out. ARGH so frustrating… especially since I bought everything I need to make these super cute yoga skirts for our upcoming trip.
I need the sewing gods to smile upon me…

Boutique Chic

As anyone who knows me well is aware, I love nice things… but hate to pay so much for them. In fact, I often find myself going shops like Anthropolgy fully prepared to buy something stunning – only to leave empty handed. I usually find something I love but think to myself “I could totally make that. . .” And most of the time I am right. With a little trial and error I end up creating lots of fun pieces for a fraction of the cost! {yes I buy things. sometimes I just dont have time to make it, or I just love the piece that I found. I just don’t like feeling like I am being robbed…}
Now you can too. Flower headbands are everywhere. Take a moment to make one of your very own. It is fun and easy to do. As a bonus for a limited time - CLICK HERE or the image above to download a pdf of this project as seen in the pages of Simply Handmade magazine. (April/May 2010 Issue) The magazine is full of fabulous ideas and is available in print or in digital format!

One thing that summer means to me… FLIP FLOPS! I Love Flip Flops. I especially love that they are available in every color, style, and at times cost only a $1. I decided to get into my stash of ribbon ends… those little leftover pieces too short to tie… and embellish these $1 flip flops.
1. Brush your favorite ribbon with Ribbonstiff. Let dry. (the ribbons I used here are all Strano Designs ribbon)
2. Using your favorite punch or die cut system, cut out the desired number of flowers.
3. Adhere the flowers to the top of your flip flop using hot glue. OR if you want to be able to change it up a little, build your flowers onto a piece of velcro, and add a velcro dot to the top of the sandal, that way, you can change at will!
4. Add just a touch of BLING. You can use a permanent glue, but I like to use Hot Fix crystals. I find they last longer and I always use real crystals for my wearables.
